Admission Form for UNIJOS M.A. Film Culture and Archiving Studies, 2020/2021 Session

Admission forms for the M.A. Film Culture and Archiving Studies program at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) are presently on sale for the 2020/2021 academic session. Please see the instructions below on how to apply.


The University of Jos (UNIJOS) School of Postgraduate Studies is launching a 24-month Masters Program in Film Culture and Archiving Studies in the Department of Theatre and Film Arts, in collaboration with the National Film Institute (NFI) through the Nigerian Film Corporation and German Institutions. The course covers many areas of film culture theory and practice, as well as the scientific foundation for film archiving.

MA Film Culture and Film Archiving at UNIJOS:

This is a collaboration between German and Nigerian institutions to transfer knowledge. In the TNB (Transnationale Bildung) program, Goethe Universität, Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, and Arsenal Institut für Film und Videokunst Berlin represent German institutions, while the Nigerian Film Corporation/National Film Institute, Jos, and the University of Jos represent Nigerian institutions. According to Goethe University, “this program is the first of its kind in Africa and one of roughly a dozen worldwide.” The Jos program’s goal is to:

1. Educate scientists for film and media archives

2.train film culture institutes across Africa

3. strengthen capacity for the preservation of Nigeria’s and Africa’s audiovisual heritage

4.There is a better chance of getting a job. In Germany, over 90% of students who completed this course have already found work. This is something that can be done in Nigeria.

The University of Jos and Goethe University will provide academic instruction, while the Nigerian Film Corporation, through NFI, will handle the practical parts of the training. The University of Jos, on the other hand, will confer the degree based on the National Film Institute’s current association with the university. It is anticipated to begin in October 2019.

Targeted Group:

The course is aimed at Nigerian and international students who are interested in careers in cinema culture and archival studies. Given Nigeria’s and Africa’s developing film industries, there is a high demand for this talent.

The student’s eligibility for the MA program in Film Culture and Archival Studies; the candidate will be considered for the program if he or she holds the following qualities:

  1. BA or B.Sc in Film Arts, or Theatre & Film Arts, from the National Film Institute, University of Jos, or any other accredited university recognized by the University of Jos Senate.
  2. B.Sc., B.A., or HND in Mass Communication, Social Sciences, Arts/Humanities, or Natural Sciences
  3. A second-class lower division (2.2) degree or a Higher National Diploma (lower credit) with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.40 is required. Candidates with a third-class or HND (below Lower credit) will be admitted if they meet the University of Jos Postgraduate admission requirements. In addition, if the applicant is a practitioner with a film background with a minimum of five years post-graduation experience, a Postgraduate Diploma in Film Related Courses is necessary.
  4. Candidates who do not have a background in theatre or film will be required to take introductory undergraduate courses.
  5. Basic O’ level scores with a credit in English Language are required for admission.

MA Film Culture and Film Archiving Application Process

All ambitious candidates should do the following to purchase the online application form:

Make a User Account

  1. Go to www.portal.unijos.edu.ng.
  2. Select FORMS APPLICATION from the drop-down menu.
  3. Go to Masters Program and select it.
  4. Click Register after filling out the Account Registration Form.

The activation of your account An email with a link is sent to the address supplied. To proceed, log in to your email account and click the link to activate your account, which will take you to the log in page. Or

Payment of the Application Form Fee

  1. Go to www.portal.unijos.edu.ng
  2. Select LOGIN from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter the email address and password you used to establish your account.
  4. To access your private dashboard, click Login.

  2. A window containing payment information will appear.)
  3. Select PAYMENT from the drop-down menu.
  4. Choose your desired payment method (bank branch, card, etc.) and enter the relevant information.
  5. Follow the prompts until the payment is completed.
  6. Upon successful payment, print the receipt. Print the other copy of the receipt that was mailed to you.

Complete the online application form.

  1. Go to portal.unijos.edu.ng.
  2. Select LOGIN from the drop-down menu.
  3. Fill in your email address and password, and then click “Submit.”
  4. To access your private dashboard, click Login.
  5. Go to My Profile and select it.
  6. Fill out the online application form by clicking Add/Edit Bio-Data. (Make sure you fill out all of the fields on all tabs: bio-data, result, sponsor, next of kin, passport, and signature upload.)
  1. When all tabs have been correctly completed, click Submit (a form will be generated for you). Print this page and save it for future use.)


  1. Only use email addresses and phone numbers that are valid and functional. All future correspondence will be sent to the specified email address and phone number.
  2. Referee forms are delivered through email. As a result, you must supply authentic and working email addresses and phone numbers for your referees. It’s worth noting that after the referee form is correctly completed, it will be sent to the appropriate department automatically.
  3. Corrections to personal information made after the application form has been submitted may be subject to a cost. As a result, make sure the online form is filled out completely and accurately.

Before October 27, 2021, complete application forms and an application letter including the applicant’s email address and phone number must be returned to the institute. Applications that do not include all of the necessary materials will be rejected. Shortlisted applicants will be notified via text messages and emails on November 3rd, 2021.
