Due to events beyond its control, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Monday that pre-examination activities, including registration for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, would begin late.

The board also justified its decision to require a National Identification Number throughout the registration procedure.

In an interview with The Learnerstent in Abuja, the board’s spokesman, Dr Fabian Benjamin, clarified the situation.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, most of the board’s pre-examination operations, including the 2022 UTME registration, are commencing late.” “However, we are prepared to go above and beyond not just to fulfill the deadline, but also to make the 2022 UTME registration and examination the finest yet,” he stated. Implementing the NIN was a game-changer in the fight against impersonation.

“The board’s implementation of the NIN in UTME registration in 2021 was a game-changer in the fight against impersonation and other examination violations,” Benjamin stated. Given the numerous difficulties and opposition to the policy from many places, it should be highlighted that the decision to implement the NIN was a difficult one.

“However, seeing the numerous benefits associated with the deployment of the NIN, the board made the unpopular but beneficial decision, knowing that any departure from the norm would, more often than not, be met with initial opposition and rejection, and was, therefore, understandably undeterred in its chosen course of action.”
